Example uses for Audio

Using Audio-only feeds and assets in the Stage TEN Studio enables:

  • Background music: MP3 files can be used to add background music to your broadcast.

  • Commentary: Audio commentary can be added over a video, image, or screen share.

  • Always-on mics: Commonly used for interviews. Keep your participants' audio live even when their video/camera feed isn't in the scene.

How to use Audio-only feeds

  1. The Audio Bar (highlighted below) can be found at the bottom of the Scene Builder. It has 4 slots.

  1. You can drag any live feed (from the Live Feed Line Up) or prerecorded asset (from the Media Library) into an open slot on this bar.

  1. Once audio is in the bar (and you make the scene live), that Audio-only feed or asset will be included in your live broadcast until it's removed.

  2. To remove an Audio-only feed or asset, select the X button to remove it from the bar, and then take your updated scene live.

Adding an MP3 soundtrack to your broadcast

  1. Place your MP3 into persistent audio into the audio-only bar. This will continue playing throughout your broadcast, as you switch between scenes.

  2. When incorporating a MP3 into your broadcast, adjust the volume so participants can be heard. The volume can be adjusted on MP3s, just like with live feeds (see audio slider below).

Tip: The Audio Monitor (headphones switch) allows you to preview the audio of the scene builder before you take a scene live. This allows you to check the volume of audio assets and soundtracks before adding them to the live feed.

Example 1: Multi-Camera Interview

Let's say your show is an interview format. You have two participants in conversation, with a camera pointed at each of them.

You use different visual layouts to focus on one participant or another, but you want to hear both audio feeds regardless of whether their video feed is in the scene or not.

Solution: Add both feeds to the audio-only bar. You can now switch between the split shot and alternate between single shots while maintaining the conversation, as the audio from both participants can be heard no matter what's shown on screen.

Example 2: Commentate over a video

You are sharing a presentation, or playing a prerecorded video. Sometimes you want to talk over the video, even if you aren't shown on screen.

Solution: While playing a video, add your feed to the audio-only bar. This will allow your voice to be heard over the video.

In both examples below, Alvin's audio can be heard.

  • On the left, we can hear him because his feed is in the scene.

  • On the right, even though his video has been removed from the scene, we can hear him because his audio feed has been added to the mix using the Audio Bar.
