Tip: Don't underestimate the importance of a decent mic. Yes, you want to use the best camera you have access to (whether that's a webcam, a mobile device or a Digital SLR). But no matter the picture quality, poor audio will make your stream feel cheap to your viewers.

Types of Local Feeds

You can connect many different types of cameras & feeds in Stage TEN to enhance the production quality of your show. The most commonly used feeds are:

  • Webcams: Webcams can already be a part of your computer or be an external source. Consumer webcams connect directly to your computer via USB and are recognized as a Video Source once plugged in.

  • Mobile Devices: You can use your phone as a .

  • Pro-cams: You can use DSLRs and other high-end cameras to give your show a professional look. For this you need an encoder, so your computer recognizes the camera as a webcam. See .

  • Virtual Cameras: Some applications generate a "Virtual Camera" on your computer. This behaves like a normal camera, but may not be directly connected to a physical camera. For example:

    • Snap Cam allows you to apply filters and virtual backgrounds to your camera, and outputs that as if it's another camera

    • OBS can send its stream output to a virtual camera

  • Audio Interfaces: External devices (sometimes called Sound Cards) that allow you to connect pro microphones, such as condenser mics that require phantom power.

Add a local cam feed

  1. In the Pro Studio, click Add or Invite Feeds, then Add Local Cam.

  2. A default video source will be selected. You can also choose from your computer's Video Sources - cameras that are connected to your computer.

    • Some apps appear as "virtual cameras", such as Snap Cam, OBS, etc.

  3. A default audio source will be selected. You can also choose from your computer's Audio Sources such as built-in or connected microphones.

    • To share audio playing on your computer, .

Local Feed Audio Settings

  1. Click the settings (⛭) button next to your local video source to open the Edit local cam menu.

    • The settings button appears when you hover over the source.

  1. Choose an Audio Preset - Voice or Music / Game.

  2. For more control, you can also click Customize Audio settings.

  • Echo Cancelling: When toggled on, echo is reduced by preventing speaker noise being picked up by your microphone. If enabled, audio will be down-mixed to mono.

  • Noise Suppression: When toggled on, this automatically filters audio to remove background noise, humming caused by equipment, etc. If Auto-Gain Control is turned on, this setting should also be enabled.

  • Auto-Gain Control: When toggled on, your volume will be automatically adjusted to maintain a steady overall volume level. If Noise Suppression is turned on, this setting should also be enabled.

  • Include Audio in Monitor Mix: Determines if you (as the director) hear this audio in your headphones. This does not affect whether your audience hears this feed. By default, this is off for local feeds.
